Man attacks and strangles mother during argument

Man in his 20's arrested for charging, attacking and assaulting his 65-year-old mother.

“Domestic violence can get out of hand if not dealt with properly from roots level, addressing it in the early development stages, so that it does not destroy or tear families apart as it does with many households. Violence is capable of turning a person into a monster if not guarded properly and stopped at an early age.”

This statement was made by Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson after a 29-year-old man from central Kagiso was put behind bars for allegedly assaulting his 65-year-old mother following an argument on 2 March.

The victim told police that she arrived home at 3.30pm and found a drum inside her kitchen. The drum was supposed to be kept in her son’s shack which is also used as the storeroom.

When the victim questioned the suspect about the drum being in the kitchen, the suspect became aggressive and charged at her,” Sibiya explained.

The man then allegedly strangled and punched his mother in the face until she fell to the floor. He then allegedly kicked her before his brother came in and stopped him. The woman was later taken to hospital .

“The abuse of women, including elders, will not be tolerated or negotiated. Anyone abusing this group will be arrested and there can be no excuse,” warned the Kagiso Police acting station commander, Colonel Peter Mabuso.

Sibiya added that police responded swiftly to the complaint and within a few minutes they managed to apprehend the suspect who is facing assault charges related to domestic violence.
