Three women raped in one weekend

Following three rape incidents over the weekend, police urge women to put their lives and safety first instead of attending overnight drinking sprees.

“Winning the war against crime, specifically crimes against women, needs cooperation, willingness and the ability to work with the police and other civic groups whose main objective is to stop all forms of abuse directed at women as vulnerable groups.”

These are the words of Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson, who said it was concerning to learn that some women ignore the efforts designed to save their dignity from ruthless criminals who prey on them at night.

According to Sibiya, three rape incidents were reported to the Kagiso Police over the past weekend, and all three took place between 10pm and 1am.

Such unfortunate humiliating and degrading incidents could have been easily avoided.”

The Kagiso Police are therefore appealing to women to put their lives and safety first instead of attending overnight drinking sprees.

Sibiya said in some cases a ruthless perpetrator may decide to silence the victim to remove all evidence permanently.

“It is therefore necessary and very wise that women avoid walking alone at night. We urge women not to afford the perpetrators a free ride to destroy them and their well-being.

Let women play a vital role in fighting such heinous crimes by adhering to curfew restrictions, as such restrictions can help minimise chances of them becoming vulnerable or potential rape victims.”
