Armed robber caught after being on the run for months

No person has the right, authority or power to threaten or take anyone's life and expect to get away with it – Brigadier Themba Maduna.

“No person has the right, authority or power to threaten or take anyone’s life and expect to get away with it. Everyone is protected by law and everyone has the right to live without fear or being victimised, including foreign nationals,” warned the station commander of the Kagiso Police, Brigadier Themba Maduna.

The statement was released following the arrest of a 30-year-old man for armed robbery in Extension 13 at 5am on 26 March.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson explained that the victim alleged that on 9 December 2020 at about 7.45pm he was confronted by a man on the street.

“The man accused him of owing him some money. When he denied owing the man anything, the man showed him a black firearm that was attached to his waist,” Sibiya explained.

The man allegedly then threatened to shoot the victim and demanded his cellphone and cash.

“Out of fear the complainant handed his cellphone and cash over to the man, who left the scene without any shots being fired.”

The matter was reported to the Kagiso Police and an armed robbery case docket was opened. Police launched a manhunt for the armed suspect who had been on the run ever since.

Police received a tip-off that the suspect was back in the area, and after strategising they pounced on him and arrested him.
