Police in District continue to make presence felt: 121 arrested

Let us continue to strive towards making the West Rand a better place to live in – acting West Rand District Police Commissioner.

More than 120 people were arrested during another Okae Molao Operation held in Carletonville and Khutsong on the far West Rand recently.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the duration of the operation was eight hours.

Suspects were arrested for the following offences:

Attempted murder (one); house robbery (two); rape and sexual assault (15); robbery (nine); assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (15); possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition (two); and possession of precious minerals (four).

“Liquor was also confiscated from unlicensed liquor outlets, while traffic fines amounting to R64 800 were issued to the motorists,” Lefakane said.

Brigadier Ngwako Mashao, the acting West Rand District Police Commissioner praised the police officers on duty saying, “Let us continue to strive towards making the West Rand a better place to live in. We must make criminals feel the pressure to move out rather than being comfortable in this region.”

All arrested suspects are expected to appear in their respective magistrates’ courts soon.
