Bakkie rolls down ravine on R28 hill

A bakkie was transporting a vehicle on a trailer on the R28 when the driver lost control of the bakkie and it went over the guard rail and down the hill.

Two people miraculously survived when their bakkie tumbled down the ravine on the R28 on Thursday, 8 April.

Traffic was congested on the R28 heading towards Silverstar while towing teams tried to salvage what remained of a Mazda Drifter that went over the railing and into the ravine at the bottom.

According to eyewitnesses the accident happened at about 9.30pm.

The Mazda was transporting another vehicle on a trailer when the driver lost control of the bakkie and went over the guard rail.

The passenger was not injured, and it has been confirmed that the driver is in hospital in a stable condition.

Mogale City Public Safety is currently on scene and one of the two lanes is open for traffic while the wreck is being salvaged.
