An man stabbed and killed his former girlfriend as well as her new partner in Kagiso on Wednesday, 7 April.
Following the murder, members of the community severely assaulted the ex-boyfriend, aged 40, who is now in a local hospital under police guard.
Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson said at about 6pm that day police were called to an incident of mob justice in the Father Gerald suburbs of central Kagiso.
Police found two blood-soaked men lying in the street, and the body of a woman in a pool of blood next to the gates of her home.
Witnesses told police that the alleged murderer arrived at the woman’s home and found her with a new boyfriend.
“He attacked the couple with a sharp object. The woman ran to the street to get help but fell outside her gates. She succumbed to the multiple stab wounds to her upper body, and paramedics certified her dead on the scene.”
Her 48-year-old partner also sustained stab wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to hospital where he sadly died on arrival.
Sibiya said the suspect sustained severe head injuries and was admitted to hospital in a critical condition. He explained that two cases of murder have been opened, and the motive for the double murder will be investigated.
