Mogale City Public Safety (traffic police) encourages road users to settle their outstanding fines and warrants during their one-of-a-kind roadblock project this weekend without fear of being arrested.
On Saturday, 17 April, Public Safety will set up a roadblock in Azaadville Clinic’s parking area where motorists can go voluntarily to “… keep track of their outstanding fines to avoid future warrants or arrest. This also affords them an opportunity to make representations for discounted fines as the prosecutor will be present on the day to assist with such special public appeals,” said Adrian Amod, Municipal head of Corporate Communications.
“In the past, Public Safety commonly ran outreach and public-awareness campaigns. These, however, have recently been impacted by resource constraints as service providers would assist with such programmes in the past.
“Through downscaling on such initiatives, stretching our own internal Public Safety and pulling together other municipal resources, the municipality’s Public Safety Division is embarking on one such outreach event on Saturday.
“On the day the public can pay their outstanding fines – preferably by card – and are therefore encouraged to visit the team who are out there purely to assist. Mogale Public Safety also commits that members of the public should not fear any arrests as this is against the object of the Outreach Programme which is to provide information and arrange solutions for outstanding traffic offences. Our team will be out in full force and looking forward to assisting with any query or information,” Adrian concluded.
