A 19-year-old man was put behind bars after he allegedly helped to rob his parents’ home.
Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson said the crime was committed at about 9.20pm last Wednesday, 28 April, and he explained what had happened.
The victim – the suspect’s father – alleged that he was in his study at home when he heard the lounge door opening.
“He stood up as he wanted to check, but was surprised by two unknown men with firearms.”
The two intruders pushed him back into the study room and later tied him up. When they warned the victim not to scream he recognised his 19-year-old son’s voice.
They allegedly searched through the man’s trousers and found cash, a SASSA card, driver’s licence, a Nokia phone and a wallet.
“They went to the main bedroom where they took an LG cellphone. On their way out they even took a bunch of keys. No shots were fired.”
The next morning the victim went to the Kagiso Police and laid charges. Police launched a manhunt for the two armed suspects, and the 19-year-old suspect was cornered at about 5pm on 3 May.
“House robberies are giving us steeples nights, week in and week out. However, we are not going to rest until perpetrators are put behind bars, no matter how long it takes; we are patient,” warned Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.
The man is expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on charges of house robbery while the Kagiso Police are still searching for his accomplice.
