Reports came in earlier today, Wednesday, 12 May, about a shootout close to the Krugersdorp Nature Reserve.

The News has contacted the police for details but is still waiting for a reply. Oostermoed Security, however, has meanwhile released a statement regarding the incident, saying a vehicle was hijacked and there was a robbery in Kroondal.

Oostermoed Security and Hekpoort Police were allegedly searching for the vehicle when they received a report that it had been spotted on a dirt road in Vlakfontein.

The West Rand Police K9, Violent Crimes and Cluster Crime Units chased after them and it ended in a shootout. One suspect was allegedly detained and one vehicle recovered.

It is alleged that later the police, Custodian Security and Razorvox Security apprehended more suspects close to Oaktree while they tried to get away in a taxi.

Reportedly another get-away vehicle as well as a firearm were recovered close to Pinehaven.

Allegedly four suspects were arrested, two vehicles were recovered and two firearms were seized.

It is said that goods had been stolen from a British American Tobacco truck.
