Police respond to case of man shot in carjacking; vehicle recovered

Krugersdorp Police are investigating a case of carjacking after a man was shot in his driveway in Krugersdorp North last week.

Krugersdorp Police and the West Rand Trio Task team are investigating a case of carjacking after a man was shot while he was leaving his home in Krugersdorp North last Thursday, 13 May.

Responding to a request from the News, Captain Raymond Sebonyane, the Krugersdorp Police spokesperson said the incident happened at a residence on Bodenstein Street at about 12.34pm.

“A 67-year-old man was accosted by two unknown men – one was armed with a firearm – while he was reversing from his premises,” said Sebonyane, explaining that the two thugs entered the premises before one of them knocked and broke the car window.

“The victim was shot once in the right hand as the suspects broke the window. The victim was left lying helpless on the ground while bleeding.”

The men made off with the victim’s green Diahatsu Terios which was recovered on Patrice Lumumba Street, Kagiso 2 at about 1.20pm. The men were nowhere to be found.

“The police are appealing to anyone who might have any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects or witnessed the crime to come forward.”

The police have also provided some safety tips.
• Always observe for suspicious people when reversing out of or driving into your yard.
• Always drive with your doors locked.
• If you suspect you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station or a busy public area.
• Do not stop when another driver signals that you have a flat tyre or that something is wrong on your vehicle.
• Do not give any lifts.
