Protest erupts in Rietvallei: Nine arrested thus far

Rubber bullets and tear gas fired on day two of protests in Rietvallei – road users are urged to avoid the area.

After a day of violent protests in Rietvallei on Monday, 24 May, masses have gathered again on Tuesday afternoon.

Captain Kay Mahubela, the Gauteng Police spokesperson has confirmed that nine people have been arrested in connection with the protests thus far.

News journalist Natasha Pretorius is currently on scene and reported how police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Road users are urged to avoid the area.
