Police have warned motorists and pedestrians to be cautious of criminal activity when using Impala Road next to Tshepisong.
Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya, explained that for the past three weeks their station has been getting numerous reports of armed robberies aimed at unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.
Attempted murders and murders have also been registered. Sometimes opportunistic criminals prey on frustrated motorists.”
He said on June 3, a case of theft out of a motor vehicle was registered with the police.
The victim told police that he was driving on Impala Road at about 12:55 when he noticed a group of protesters using burning tyres to barricade the road next to the main traffic light intersection near Leratong Hospital.
“After the traffic had come to a standstill unknown thugs suddenly opened and jumped inside the victim’s vehicle, stealing a plasma TV set placed on a middle seat.”
He urged motorists to keep their vehicle doors and windows locked.
Also do not place any valuables where criminals can easily see them and be tempted to break into your vehicle.”
Sibiya said some incidents of concern involve women being ambushed by armed assailants and pulled from the road into the nearby bushes, where they are robbed or raped.
Walking on Impala Road at night can be equally risky, especially when a stranger offers you a lift.
Lastly, Sibiya said that motorists should increase caution and always be on the lookout for people loitering around their vehicles.
