Thieves drive off with vehicle after fooling victim

A man thought he was having a tracking device installed in his vehicle but he was fooled and his vehicle was stolen.

Police are asking the help of the community to find two suspects in connection with a car theft in Kagiso three months ago.

According to Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya, the theft occurred in Central Kagiso at about 16:00 on 24 March.

Captain Sibiya said the two suspects allegedly phoned the victim and convinced him that they were from a legitimate tracker installation company and wanted to install a tracking device in his vehicle.

The suspects were driving a Corsa bakkie and one of them was wearing a blue shirt with Netstar branding,” Sibiya said.

After the men had met the victim, they put a toolbox inside his vehicle – a red BMW with registration number DY73GLGP.

One of the men then asked to test-drive the victim’s vehicle while the other man told the victim that he was going to the shop quickly to buy a cold drink. None of them returned.

We are appealing to anyone with information about the suspects’ whereabouts to call the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9000, 011 696 9059, 011 696 9065 or 011 696 9067. Alternatively, kindly call the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111 or send your information to the My SAPS app which can be downloaded from any app store. You may choose to remain anonymous.”
