Police catch man accused of string of robberies

While out patrolling, police caught a man busy robbing a shop. They say this was just the start to the fight against the criminals involved in a string of business robberies.

“Following a spate of business robberies in central Kagiso directed at foreign nationals, spaza shops, and the Usave supermarket, police made a commitment to bring the perpetrators down to their knees and squeeze their comfort.”

Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya said the station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna, has spearheaded a plan to stop the criminals behind these crimes and met with residents to pave the way forward.

This initiative already bore fruit on June 8 Sibiya when a 27-year-old business robbery suspect was cornered and apprehended.

As the police members arrived at a Usave as part of their intensified strategy to destabilise and minimise business robberies around the area, a concerned resident alerted them to a business robbery in progress at a nearby spaza shop.”

Sibiya said the members responded swiftly and as the armed suspect tried to get away, he was cornered and overpowered. The man had an unlicensed firearm in his possession, cash that he had stolen from the shop, and a cellphone allegedly belonging to one of his victims.

“We expect to arrest more suspects involved in these business robberies. No matter how long it takes and with residents next to us, we will bring perpetrators to book,” Maduna promised.
