A 38-year-old man from Rietvallei, Kagiso was arrested for the rape of a family friend.
Captain Solomon Sibiya from the Kagiso Police said at about 20:00 on June 26 the victim was asleep in her bedroom when the suspect, who was very well known to the family, arrived.
Sibiya said the man snuck into the victim’s bedroom, touched her and asked if she was okay before leaving again. He later returned and found the victim asleep.
“Taking this opportunity he started raping the victim and told her it was payback for the booze that he had bought her earlier,” Sibiya explained.
The victim later went to the bathroom from where she managed to escape and blow a whistle.
When the family heard the noise they went to the victim’s bedroom but the suspect was already left. They reported the matter to the Kagiso Police.
“A search for the suspect began, and he was later cornered and apprehended.”
He was charged with rape and made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
