Sports fans will be glad to know that winter season will not be boring with so many sports fixtures available. What’s worth watching?

This July comes alive with sporting events taking place all around the world.

Football fans can look forward to two major football competitions in the name of the EURO 2020 and the COPA America which are coming to a thrilling end. Both competitions are reaching a critical stage this weekend as the quarter finals are taking place in both tournaments.

The EURO 2020 has seen some dramatic scenes as some of the favourite teams to win the competition exited the event. France, Germany and the Netherlands were all seen as countries that could walk away with this year’s title but were all knocked out during their Round of 16 matches. The first two matches of the quarter finals will takeplace this Friday when Switzerland takes on Spain at 18:00 and Belgium battles it out with Italy at 21:00. Saturday sees the remaining two quarter final matches take place as Czech Republic plays Denmark at 18:00 and Ukraine take on England at 21:00.

Brazil and Argentina are the two teams that have been leading their group in this COPA America. This weekend sees Peru and Paraguay play for a spot in the semis on Friday night and Brazil against Chile on Saturday evening.  Sunday will see two matches taking place as Argentina takes on Ecuador and Uruguay plays Colombia for their spot in the semis. Both tournaments will come to an end next weekend on the 11th of July when the final matches will be played.

Kaizer Chiefs will be playing in their first final in the CAF Championship against Al Ahly in Egypt on the 17th of July. Kaizer Chiefs made it through by beating Wydad AC in the semi finals of the tournament. This is a match that all South African football fans will be watching and the game will start at 21:00.

The British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa is another sports event that South Africans will be looking forward to. The rugby action will kick off on Friday night as the Springboks make their return to international rugby with a warm up game against Georgia. Saturday will see the British and Irish Lions take on the Emirates Lions in Johannesburg at 17:00. Rugby fans will have to wait until the 14th of July to see the Bokke take on the Lions in their first match of three. The Lions tour comes to an end on the 7th of August when they play their last match against the Boks in Ellis Park stadium.
