Richard Branson plans to be launched into space today - becoming the first person to ever test the 'private astronaut experience'.

Sir Richard Branson, CEO of the Virgin Group, will today be launched into space on the rocket SpaceShipTwo, on its Unity 22 mission.

The purpose of this mission is for the company to check cabin and customer experience on a spaceflight, prompting plans of future flights for private citizens.

Live coverage of the launch has already begun with the final launch expected to be carried out sometime today, pending weather and technical checks.

This mission will be the twenty-second flight test for VSS Unity and Virgin Galactic’s fourth crewed spaceflight.

It will also be the first to carry a full crew of two pilots and four mission specialists in the cabin, including Virgin Galactic’s founder, Sir Richard Branson, who will be testing the private astronaut experience.
