Krugersdorp firefighter loses his life to Covid-19

A drive-by memorial service is planned for local fireman, Willem Vermeulen, this Wednesday after he lost his fight against Covid-19.

The Krugersdorp Fire Department and community suffered a great loss when leading fireman, Willem Vermeulen, lost his life recently.

A drive-by memorial service for Willem will be held on July 14 at 11:45 at the Krugersdorp Fire Brigade at 1 Commissioner Street in Krugersdorp. During the service Willem’s family and fire officers will stand outside with his coffin while firefighters will be on duty in the park opposite the station.

Friends, acquaintances and mourners are asked to stay inside their vehicles and wait in the designated parking area.

A short message will be delivered at 12:00, and at 12:15 vehicles will be allowed to drive past slowly. Afterward a fire engine will escort the hearse to where Willem will be cremated.

Everyone is asked to please adhere to strict Covid-19 regulations.

The Mogale Response Services recently posted a message for Willem on their Facebook page.

“Today we lost one of our own. Willem Vermeulen, 47 years old, leading fireman, emergency services official of 29 years, a gentle giant, kind, humble and generous. A person who did so much good in his time. The world is certainly a poorer place without you. Rest easy Willem, we have the watch from here,” read the heartbreaking post.
