With continued efforts to restore law and order, and by ensuring compliance with level 4 lockdown regulations Kagiso Police are determined to stop crime.
While they consistently conduct disruptive patrols in different sectors throughout the day they also focus on tracing potential perpetrators behind last week’s looting, and making their presence felt.
Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya explained that some of the illegal activities they want to address are concoction-brewing, selling and transporting alcohol by either legal or illegal liquor outlets, and the possession of stolen or looted goods.
The Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna urged the community to report illegal activity and said,
Brewing concoctions is common in many residential areas, especially in informal settlements. It contributes to domestic violence like any other form of intoxicating water, and can be a serious health hazard. We urge loyal residents to report any illegal activities in their areas.”
In the same vein, a 53-year-old woman was arrested in the Soul City informal settlement at about 15:00 on Tuesday, July 21 for brewing and selling a concoction.
“While ransacking the suspect’s shack, the police found two heavy drums filled with a concoction. Tons of home-brewed beer were confiscated for destruction,” Captain Sibiya said.
The woman will be appearing in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
