The Kagiso detectives recently arrested two men from Soul City on suspicion of hijacking, attempted murder and assault.
Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya explained in a statement that the two men aged 37 and 43 were arrested at about 16:00 on Thursday, July 22.
The victim of these horrific crimes told police that on July 19, after returning from the scrap yard, two men showed up at his home.
“One of them drew a firearm and ordered the victim to follow them to an open field near Soul City informal settlement,” Sibiya said.
When they got to the field the men accused the victim of stealing a cellphone, and demanded at gunpoint that he return it.
“They assaulted and strangled the victim with shoe laces, but he managed to escape. The armed thug fired several shots at the fleeing victim, but the victim was not wounded.”
After opening a case and launching a manhunt for the men, the police received information from anonymous callers about the suspects’ whereabouts and acted on it.
“You can run but you can’t hide from the long arm of the law; if you do crime you will be arrested,” said Brigadier Themba Maduna of the Kagiso Police.
The two suspects will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court facing charges of kidnapping, attempted murder and assault GBH (grievous bodily harm).
