Girl, 16, raped next to school; boyfriend chased off

'We once again urge our teenagers to avoid standing on street corners, leaning against schools fences, and strolling in the dark because the night can be extremely dangerous' – Police.

Kagiso Police said another rape case in Swaneville, this time involving a 16-year-old girl, is a cause for great concern to them.

Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya said at about 19:00 on Monday, July 26 the victim was walking with her boyfriend when an armed man approached them.

He drew a firearm and pointed it at the victim and her partner, and instructed them to lie on the ground. He then robbed the victim’s partner of his cellphone and sandals, before chasing him away and kicking the victim in the face. The thug then pushed the victim to the ground next to a local school where he raped and robbed her of her Lacoste takkies.

As police, we are once again urging our teenagers to avoid standing on street corners, leaning against schools fences, and strolling in the dark because the night can be extremely dangerous.”

Sibiya said they were aware that since the Disaster Management Act restrictions have been adjusted, gender-based violence related cases of a humiliating nature will be reported on a daily basis, and said these sometimes involve very young adults.

“Kagiso Police are urging our youth to love life and act responsibly, bearing in mind that the world awaits them as responsible leaders.”

They are appealing to anyone with information about the suspect who is in possession of a pair of men’s white-and-blue Adidas sandals as well as a pair of Lacoste takkies, to call the Kagiso Police on 011696 900, 011 696 9059, 011 696 9065, 011 696 9067 or the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111.
