Vaccination now available at Sterkfontein Hospital
Sterkfontein Hospital will now be administering the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine from Mondays to Fridays to those registered on the EVDS site.
Sterkfontein Hospital recently opened their vaccination site to the public, and urges those who need their first or second dose of the Pfizer vaccine to visit them.
“Primarily, the hospital’s vaccination site is designated to vaccinating patients who are admitted here under the Mental Health Care Act 17 of 2002, and the hospital’s staff members.
Due to the growing need in the surrounding community and the urgency to accelerate vaccinations countrywide, the hospital has opened its vaccination site to the public as well,” said Herbert Shuping, Sterkfontein Hospital Corporate Manager.
Community members are requested to first register for vaccination on the government’s Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) here.
After registration, go to the Sterkfontein Hospital for the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Then report to the same vaccination site on the date provided during the first visit for the second dose.
According to a statement by management, “Sterkfontein Hospital is authorised in terms of section 22A (15) of the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965 to acquire, possess, use or supply Covid-19 vaccines and other medicines that may be required in conjunction with the administration of the Covid-19 vaccine”.
Vaccinations are done from Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 11:30 at Sterkfontein Hospital Recreational Hall, 178 IQ Honingklip Road, and currently only persons over the age of 35 are eligible.
Shuping also explained that they will be implementing precautions to ensure “… that patients are protected from possible infection at the vaccination site. In addition, there is a need to protect patients’ privacy and dignity.
Hospital management hopes to receive full cooperation from the members of the public, also to comply with the regulations governing the hospital.”
