Owner of company, his son arrested: Stolen property valued R400k found

The West Rand District Police arrested a father and son for being in possession of alleged stolen property in Factoria, believed to have been stolen in Putfontein.

Two men from Factoria were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.

Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, spokesperson for the West Rand District Police and the Randfontein Police said the arrests were made at about 16:00 on Tuesday, August 10.

She explained that Visible Policing members received information about stolen property in Factoria. According to the information, drums that had been stolen from a company in Wadeville, Germiston were on the property.

When the members arrived they found 152 drums containing bitumen on the property, the value of which was estimated to be R400 000.

“Bitumen is a black viscous mixture of hydrocarbons obtained naturally or as a residue from petroleum distillation. It is used for road surfacing and roofing.”

The 63-year-old owner of the company and his 35-year-old son were arrested for possession of the property suspected to have been stolen in Putfontein. The case was also reported in Putfontein.

The suspects were detained at the Krugersdorp cells and will appear at Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police commissioner complimented the members for their work and briskly responding to the complaint.
