Three suspects between the ages 29 and 34 were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as impersonating a police officer in Kagiso on Wednesday, August 11.
Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya said the arrests were a joint effort by police and other law enforcement.

He explained the members of the Provincial Investigating Unit received information about a white Volkswagen Jetta 5 with three suspicious-looking occupants.
“The vehicle was seen driving in and out of Bassonia, in the south of Johannesburg. Police followed up on the information and eventually spotted the vehicle. The occupants did not notice the police following them as they drove to Kagiso, and the police stopped them at a stop sign on the R41 between Rietvallei Extension 2 and 3, and Azaadville.
“During an intensive body and vehicle search the police found an unlicensed CZ75 firearm (9mm) and 23 rounds of ammunition inside the vehicle. They also found a reflector jacket and noticed a siren mounted on the grill of the vehicle.”
The three suspects were arrested and taken to the Kagiso Police Station where a case was opened.

“Our investigations will leave no stone unturned to establish whether the suspects were behind crimes involving impersonating law-enforcement officials in and around the Kagiso precinct. I want to applaud members for their diligence, consistency and the swift response that led them to stopping the suspects in their tracks,” said Brigadier Themba Maduna, commander of the Kagiso Police.
The suspects are set to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
