“The month of August is specially dedicated to honouring women for their role in society as well as to the emancipation of their human rights and dignity.”
These were the words of Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya during an operation held on Monday, August 30 where women in blue were joined by their female traffic police counterparts and safety patrollers to ensure perpetrators were brought to book.
Under the command of Kagiso Police station commander Brigadier Themba Maduna and their operational commander, our women officers needed to stamp their authority like they did when they marched to the Union Buildings against pass laws during the apartheid era.”
The operation was held between 09:00 and 13:00 and started with a roadblock at a busy intersection between Kagiso and Azaadville on the R41. They issued 39 traffic fines to the value of R41 800 and 11 undocumented persons were arrested.

Four illegal miners were arrested for being in possession of gold-bearing material, and a vehicle that was used in the commission of a crime was confiscated. The police also confiscated another three bags of gold-bearing material.
West Rand District Police commissioner Major General Fred Kekana praised all women who took part in the operation and told them they finished Women’s Month in a proper manner.
“He was proud of what they did,” concluded Captain Sibiya.
