Acting Krugersdorp Police station commander Colonel Christelle Booysen is concerned about the increase in property-related crimes over the past few weeks.
Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye from the West Rand Police’s corporate communications said a number of burglaries turned into house robberies when the occupants or house workers were found inside the home, adding that one of the newest trends is people pretending to be doing repairs.
In one of two incidents reported in Noordheuwel, a 54-year-old man said people arriving in a white Bantam bakkie entered his yard, saying they wanted to fix the Wi-Fi. They tied up his domestic workers, took his belongings and left.
Booysen urged members of the public to be vigilant at all times, and to come forwards with any information that can lead to the arrest of these perpetrators.
She also encouraged the community to work with the police by becoming part of the Community Policing Forum or neighbourhood watch.
