UPDATE: Nine confirmed dead in gruesome taxi crash

Nine people have now been declared dead when a taxi collided with a tree and caught fire on Saturday night.

Mogale Response Services have confirmed that nine people have died and seven people in total including a child were injured when a taxi collided with a tree and caught fire on Tom Muller Street in Luipaardsvlei on Saturday night, September 4.

CPF Sector 5, GPG, ER24, AfriForum, Netcare 911, Disaster Management, Community Safety, Fire and Rescue, police, Mogale City traffic, Forensic and pathology Services, First Help, WWNW, ROCKET, SAPS towing and National Security attended to the accident scene.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst added, “Reports indicate that the driver of the mini-bus taxi lost control crashing into a tree then bursting into flames.”
