Various stakeholders took to the streets of Krugersdorp recently in an effort to raise awareness about crime.
On Tuesday, September 14 police communication officers, social crime prevention unit coordinators and Krugersdorp police sector management in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, gender-based violence (GBV) brigades and community patrollers focused on areas such as Burgershoop, Krugersdorp West, Munsieville and Noordheuwel.
“The purpose of the awareness campaign was to address crimes such as house robbery, theft out of motor vehicles, burglary at places of residence, GBV, domestic violence-related crimes as well as alcohol and drug abuse,” said Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane.

They also wished to educate the community and share tips on how to stay safe and protect oneself against crimes at home or work.
The community members were advised to lock their doors and gates, and close windows during the night as in most cases criminals use the doors and windows to gain entry. The community members were further informed not to open their doors at night in any circumstances and to rather call the Krugersdorp Police.”
You can contact the Krugersdorp Police on 011 951 1151, 011 951 1152, 082 337 1293 or 08600 10111.
Motorists were advised not to leave valuable items lying around in their vehicles even if the car is parked at their home.

“They were sensitised to check the doors properly after using mobilisers to lock their vehicles, and advised to install tracking devices and advanced security systems.”
Captain Sebonyane said the community should also be vigilant when withdrawing money from money markets or ATMs because there is a trend to rob people after they have withdrawn money.
The community members were engaged one on one. They were happy and pleased with the initiative.”
They also reminded the community that Covid-19 is still around and they should wash their hands with soap and running water, sanitize with alcohol-based sanitizer, and make sure their masks cover their mouth and nose at all times.
“The Support head of Krugersdorp Police, Colonel Rebecca Masango, on behalf of the District Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana thanked everyone who participated in the awareness campaign.”
