Déan captivates with Aladdin monologue
Curro Krugersdorp's Déan Conradie has made the World Monologue Games' regional finals where the best of the best from around Africa compete.
Local actor Déan Conradie has been selected for the World Monologue Games (Youth Category 12 to 17 years) regional finals – one of 27 events featuring the best international competitors.
This young actor from Krugersdorp submitted an entry to the World Monologue Games, a global event that attracts thousands of participants from around the world each year.
After being informed that he had made the event’s regional finals where the best of the best from around Africa would compete, Déan said, “I’m so excited that I get to compete for my country and represent my school, Curro Krugersdorp, doing what I love at this amazing event.”
World Monologue Games was set up last year by Aussie Pete Malicki, who wanted a lockdown-friendly platform for performers.
Pete said, “It’s definitely special to have our second season in an Olympics year. We have the best performers from 51 countries all getting together to show the world what they’re made of. I’m not sure where else you can see such a diverse range of actors all in the same place.”
Déan has been selected after performing a monologue from Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie. It is the scene where the merchant introduces the magic lamp to the audience. It is both fun and mysterious at the same time – setting the tone for what is to come. “This is such a great piece. I love playing around with different accents, and the different emotions in the pieces make it both challenging and satisfying to perform.”
The Africa Regional Finals youth category will be live-streamed on YouTube with 16 young actors competing for a place in the global finals where they stand a chance to win their share of $5 000 cash.
