Police from all 13 precincts in the West Rand District recently took to the streets of Magaliesburg in an effort to educate the community about factors that could lead to criminality and how to avoid them.
Sergeant Mulalo Ndou from the West Rand District’s Corporate Communication, explained in a statement that the operation took place on Tuesday, October 5.

Social Crime Prevention coordinators, communication officers, Gauteng Community Safety and Brigades all collaborated during the awareness campaign.
The campaign started at the Magalies River Lodge where the teams addressed teachers and 120 children who attended the school education camp recently. They spoke about how to avoid getting involved in drugs, bullying, gangsterism, teenage pregnancy and substance abuse.

Sergeant Ndou added that learners were encouraged to remain disciplined, focus on their education and live a prosperous life.
The team then moved to Rustenburg Road where they spoke to drivers about truck and car hijackings happening on that road, and distributed pamphlets on how to be safe.

After that the team went to Gamogale and addressed the community about house robberies, business robberies, business burglaries, gender-based violence, housebreaking and murder. They also distributed more than 1 000 pamphlets in the community.

“Break the silence and report crime to the police immediately.”
