Couple injured in Krugersdorp North hit-and-run, bakkie speeds off

A normal walk to work turned into an ordeal for a local couple when they became the victims of a hit-and-run on the pavement. The driver of the bakkie that caused their injuries sped off.

What should have been a simple walk to work for a loving couple turned into a nightmare in a matter of seconds when they became the victims of a hit-and-run incident.

The 32-year-old Rodney Pestana and 37-year-old Jenine Schutte were walking to work together on Monday morning, October 18 like they do every morning.

According to Yolandi Pestana, Rodney’s mother, they were walking down Viljoen Street in Krugersdorp North when a white bakkie came out of Fourth Street and turned left.

Rodney is not sure exactly how it happened but it is believed that the bakkie came down Viljoen Street and when it hit the pavement, the steel gate at the back of the bakkie swung open and hit Jenine and Rodney who were walking on the pavement. The bakkie then sped off leaving the couple injured.

Luckily passers-by saw what happened and phoned for an ambulance.

Jenine suffered serious facial injuries and is currently in hospital, and Rodney was hit on the left side of his body and is very shaken up.

The family is asking for anyone who has any information that could assist them in finding the bakkie and its driver to please contact them or Warrant Officer Martin Heyns from the Krugersdorp Police.

A resident of Viljoen Street did share video footage taken by his security camera but it could not provide a lot of insight into what had happened.

If you saw the accident, have footage from another angle or know the driver of the vehicle please contact Heyns on 084 945 3266 or Yolandi on 062 748 4657.
