Child Protection Hotline launched in Kagiso

The Child Protection Hotline recently launched their dedicated Kagiso hotline at the Tsholotsega School and Matla Combined School.

New hope came to the children of Kagiso recently in the form of a dedicated Kagiso child hotline. The Child Protection Hotline launched their Kagiso number at the Tsholotsega school and Matla Combined school in Kagiso recently.

The launch held on Thursday October 14 was attended by teachers of the two schools, the Kagiso Police and Danie van Loggerenberg, founder of the Child Protection Hotline.

Tsholotsega School also received a generous donation from the Key West Shopping Centre, which have partnered with the Child Protection Hotline. They donated book covers, printing paper, oil, pasta, grain and pens.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya.

Daphney Teffo from the Key West Shopping Centre said they have been taking a community approach and instead of focusing on onsite programmes they are getting involved in community projects. They want to give back to the community, because this is the community that supports them.

Key West centre management generously bought the donations and Daphney said they had realised that parents and schools had been affected by Covid-19. This is just one of the ways they can assist.

Top Score Instant Maize Porridge also donated instant porridge to all the learners of the two schools.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said they hoped that they could have a working relationship with the Child Protection Hotline. “We had noticed a problem of children going missing in Kagiso, and that kids are left unattended especially at night and over the weekends.

Sibiya said new hotline will help to eliminate these challenges.

“They have specialised training and resources which can help us find the children in time. This hotline will help a lot. We can’t eliminate these things entirely but it will help,” Sibiya said.

Danie addressed the teachers at Tsholetsega School and said the hotline will be available to report any form of child abuse 24 hours a day. Children, teachers and anyone who needs the number can call, WhatsApp or SMS the number for help.

“Teachers see things that other people don’t see,” he said, and asked them to please contact them.

Once a tip-off is given through on the number the information will be handed to the Kagiso Police, which will direct it to the correct department to help. The Kagiso Child Protection Hotline number is 071 956 9860.

Danie said that by launching the hotline at a school it allows their organisation to share their passion for children with the teachers, adding that kids these days face dangers that they did not have to face as children.
