Introducing Itumeleng Khambule as DA candidate councillor

Another DA candidate councillor answers a few questions before the upcoming local elections.

Itumeleng Khambule, 39, Democratic Alliance (DA) local elections candidate councillor for Ward 7 which includes Joshua Doore, Hillsview, Kagiso Avenue, Hospital View and Extension 6 recently answered the News’ questions regarding the upcoming elections.

1. What are you going to do differently?
As a new candidate I’m going to represent the people, communicate their needs to the municipality, attend meetings, monitor the municipality’s performance, raise concerns and follow our code of conduct which includes not disclosing information to people that can unfairly benefit from it.

2. If you were elected, what would you focus on and why?
My main focus will be on creating a safe community by ensuring that our youth get employed, resulting in eliminating poverty and crime in the community.

3. Why should the community vote for you?
I am a leader, I am a mother, and teenagers can confide in me in times of need. I grew up in the ward that I’m running for and I know what the people in the community need. I’m excellent at solving problems and resolving conflict.

4. Outside of your council duties, how are you involved in the community?
I’m involved in the community by volunteering at Home Based Care and going to visit the elderly daily, ensuring that they have eaten and taken their medication. We bathe those who need assistance and we massage those who need to be massaged.

5. What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?
I’ve been actively involved in the local and national elections. I’ve counted votes before and I’ve worked hand in hand with the previous councillor of a different ward.

The municipal elections will take place on Monday, November 1.
