Curro matrics ring the bell and say goodbye

The tolling of the bell announces Curro Krugersdorp High School matrics' departure from their home away from home for the past five years.

The annual tradition, started by the matric group of 2020, was carried forward this year by the 2021 group during an emotional day of farewells to their home away from home for the past five years.

The day’s events started with a gathering in the Curro Krugersdorp High School hall where Principal Elmar de Klerk, Executive Head Annemarie Lombard, head boy and girl Khaya Blaai and Aliyah Limbada, and other school members took to the stage to deliver a few heartfelt messages, looking back at the journey they’ve taken together.

Afterwards, the matrics queued outside to ring the Curro bell one last time in a symbolic gesture of their leaving the school behind and stepping into the outside world.

Annemarie said, “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure. Never let self-doubt stop you from becoming who you wish to be.”

School marketing representative Amoryn Wright said, “The traditional bell-ringing ceremony was led by Ms Lombard as she rang the matric bell five times, symbolising the learners’ five years of high school. Each learner then rang the bell one last time holding their blazers as they passed through the bell tower. The tradition continued in true Curro Krugersdorp High School fashion as the rest of the school formed a guard of honour to bid their seniors farewell.”
