Four students from a local university recently joined the children from Bethany House for a fun day.
Onesimo Alicia Ndlovu, Molatelo Machethe, Emir Lokata and Loyiso Mamahlodi are Public Relations students at the university where they were assigned the task to support a charity in need.
The children held a talent show and the four students were asked to be the judges – a difficult task indeed.

Later in the day they played games with the children and every child received a hot dog.
Speaking about Bethany House, the Chief Operating Officer Antoinette Jonker said they aim to provide a normal home for every one of the 106 children in their care.
Every day, they travel to 23 different schools to drop off and pick up children. They also travel between the two projects they run, namely the Bethany House Child and Youth Care Centre, and the IKUSASA CYCC. The higher petrol price not only increased their travelling costs, but also their food bill.
They always need groceries and toiletries for these projects – from cheese, maize meal, vegetables, fruit and meat, to shampoo and toothpaste.
“Diapers and baby products are always welcome too,” she said.
Sometimes people donate old or broken toys and torn clothes, but this just add to their costs as they have to dispose of the things they cannot use.
Antoinette explained that charity organisations rely on support from the Department of Social Development, but if their grants are not paid on time, which happens regularly, it becomes a crisis, not only to meet the children’s needs but also to pay salaries.
