Men nabbed with stolen vehicle, attempts to bribe cops on election day

Two illegal immigrants were caught and arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and then they tried to bribe the police on the day of the Local Government Elections.

Two men were arrested by Kagiso Police and charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle and bribery on election day.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya explained the two men aged 31 and 36 were nabbed by members from the crime-prevention team on Impala Road near Tshepisong on Monday, November 1 at about 08:30.

Captain Sibiya said the members were busy with crime-prevention duties on the R41 when they noticed a suspicious-looking BMW with registration number HWG 204EC.

The police stopped the vehicle with its two occupants. Preliminary investigations were conducted, which revealed that the BMW was reported stolen in Pretoria West.

“The two occupants, who turned out to be illegal foreign nationals were arrested.”

While the police were transporting them to the Kagiso Police Station, one of them attempted to bribe the officers with R400.

Sibiya said this offer was declined.

The two men appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court where they faced charges of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, bribery and being in the country illegally.

“They were remanded in custody for further police investigations.”

Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander lauded the members’ vigilance.
