Police in the West Rand District again banded together to conduct a social crime prevention operation, this time in the Tarlton area on Tuesday November 9.
According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, the aim was to strengthen relations between the police and the public.

“The purpose of the operation was to sensitise the community about common crimes and social ills, including domestic violence, child abuse and negligence, theft, housebreaking and theft, buying or selling stolen goods, substance abuse, persons having gone missing, and assault, all of which should be eradicated.
“We also educated the community on the services that are provided by the police and further encouraged people to utilise these services and victim support initiatives so that police and the community could work together to fight crime,” Sergeant Mogwere said.

Pamphlets containing information regarding different crimes, contact numbers of police stations in the District as well as different sector managers’ contact details were distributed.

“Community members were further encouraged to establish neighbourhoods watches, join crime-prevention initiatives, and break the silence and report any suspicious criminal activities on 08600 10111, or use SMS number 32211 or My SAPS app which can be downloaded from any smartphone and remain anonymous,” Sergeant Mogwere said.
