Foam and fun for a good cause

UniCollege's popular 5km Fun Run or Walk and Foam Fest raises funds to help Fora during their move to Tarlton.

Once a year, as part of their regular charitable initiatives, UniCollege hosts its popular 5km Fun Run or Walk and Foam Fest. Runners and walkers take on a 5km route starting and ending on the campus, and looping through the Kenmare streets.

Scores of runners lined up in the sun on Saturday, November 6 just before 09:00 to get their weekend run or walking fix, especially because they would finish the route in the large, cool foam cloud at the finish line. The group set off at 09:00 and just 21 minutes and 10 seconds later, Tyler King was the first finisher and took home the Male Open title.

Liza-Marie Kriel came in first in the Female Open Category with a time of 28 minutes and 20 seconds. Tristan Morton took the male U/16 category with a time of 25:29. In the Female U/16s, Cammy Ganesan finished first in 36:49.

Every year UniCollege staff choose a cause close to their hearts to support, this year deciding on the Fora shelter. Fora is in the process of moving to their new home in Tarlton and needs all the help they can get – with the move and financially.

The UniCollege team raised about R5 000 which was handed to Fora in the following week.
