Hekpoort Police spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye said they once again conducted operations under the command of Warrant Officer Gert Shultz. While they were performing their duties, they stopped and searched a white bakkie and found 17 unmarked goats with an approximate value of R51 000 in the back.
“The driver produced a fake permit and gave Sergeant Ndateni Phosa R9 700, begging him to let him go,” Sergeant Maswanganye said.
The man was then placed under arrest for being in possession of suspected stolen livestock and bribery.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that he had pending cases for stock theft and bribery at the Hartbeespoort Dam Police.”
Hekpoort Police station commander Captain Tebogo Kgomo welcomed the arrest and thanked the members for their continuous efforts to root out criminals around Hekpoort.
Captain Kgomo also appealed to farmers to adhere to the stipulations of the Animal Identification Act 6 of 2002, and the Stock Theft Act 57 of 1959, which control the movements of animals to prevent stock theft.
