Krugersdorp Police open inquest into the drowning of Springbok rugby player’s son

Krugersdorp Police issues statement after tragic drowning of Springbok rugby player’s son in Kenmare.

The News can confirm that an inquest has been opened into the drowning of a young boy in Kenmare believed to be the son of Springbok rugby player Jannie du Plessis.

In a statement to the News, Captain Raymond Sebonyane from the Krugersdorp Police said police were called out to the scene of a drowning at about 19:00 on Tuesday, November 16.

He said a baby boy had drowned after falling into the swimming pool at a house in Kenmare, and they have opened an inquest docket. An investigation is underway.

The police appeal to parents and/ or guardians of younger children to be more careful when children play close to any hazard. Those with swimming pools should fence them off or cover them with safety nets when not being used.”

The Krugersdorp community have shared their condolences with the Du Plessis family on the News’ Facebook page following the tragedy.
