Honouring the unselfish

The Lions Club of Krugersdorp recently awarded four school learners for their work in the community.

It is The Lions Club Krugersdorp’s lifelong mission to help the community, create awareness about a wide range of issues and give back unconditionally.

The Lions know how important it is to instil a love of giving in people from a young age, especially when they display a knack for public service.

Earlier in November the Lions sought out youth who were especially active in the Krugersdorp community, paying a visit to Krugersdorp High School (KHS) and the Epsilon Academic Support Centre to acknowledge four of their learners.

Ashley Stander, Krugersdorp Lions President said, “The teachers and students choose the most caring boy and girl, and submit the names to the Krugersdorp Lions Club, who then present these students each with a certificate and a stationery voucher of R500. The Lions Club of Krugersdorp wants to encourage learners from a young age to have a heart for their community, and never stop caring.”

Kamogelo Tlhapi and Hayden Wells from Epsilon, and Keagan Mac Rae and Taylor Jane Howatt from KHS each received an Unselfish Service Award.

“There is so much need in the Krugersdorp community and so few people who are prepared to get involved and volunteer their time. We hope to plant a seed in these learners’ minds so that one day when they work and earn a salary, they will continue to care for their community the way they cared for the learners at their school,” Ashley explained.
