Curamus learners have fun day with police, EMS
Learners from the Curamus school for Autism recently had a fun visit from different police departments and other stakeholders as part of a school safety event.
Learners and teachers from the Curamus School for Autism were treated to a fun day with police and emergency services.
On Tuesday, November 16 the Provincial and West Rand police, Public Servants Association (PSA), Public Safety, emergency services, Old Mutual, Pretoria Zoo, Security Services, Krugersdorp Fire Department, Cradle of Hope and Matla A Bana visited the school.
Curamus was identified as one of many school for a school safety day and the children were treated to demonstrations and talks by various services from the police as well as emergency services.

Stefan Viljoen and Jolande Grobler from PSA told the News that this was one of 36 school visits nationwide and the aim was to teach the children about different risks they may face. Subjects like bullying, ‘your body is yours’, and running away from home were addressed during the talks and demonstrations.
PSA also donated kitchen and security equipment as part of their Corporate Social Investment, and made a donation to the Cradle of Hope.
Stefan said they are a union with a soul and because they have members who are part of the school they wanted to give back.
The day started off with a dance by the police’s mascot, Bobby and the children were encouraged to dance with him.

Captain Raymond Sebonyane said the learners were delighted to share the dance floor with Sergeant Tshifhiwa Mitileni from Provincial Communication.
Then the Public Order Policing members came out dressed in riot gear. The Mogale City Public Safety also explained what they do and Sergeant Renier Henning and his K9, Duke made an appearance.
The Mounted Police rode past the children and on this very hot day the Krugersdorp Fire Department provided some fun and a cool relief with their fire hoses.

Krugersdorp Police’s Support Services head, Colonel Rebecca Masango handed out colouring books to the children on behalf of the West Rand District Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana.
“The learners were encouraged to report any criminal activities to the police immediately by calling the Krugersdorp Police on 011 951 1151, Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or by sending an SMS to 32211,” said Sebonyane.
