Two busted with loads of cell phone network starter packs, they then attempt to bribe cops

Two men were arrested by the Hekpoort Police after they, like many others, tried to bribe the police when they were caught with illegal possessions.

Hekpoort Police have made it pretty clear that they will not accept bribes.

This after another two men tried to evade arrest by offering the police money.

Hekpoort Police spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye explained that the two men aged 38 and 30 were arrested at about 07:50 on Friday, November 19 on the R24 Maanhaarrand Road.

One of the suspects offered the police R1 000 to let him go. Photo submitted.

“Sergeants Ndateni Phosa and Johan van den Berg were busy with their routine crime-prevention duties. They stopped and searched a white Nissan NP200 that was coming from the direction of Rustenburg.”

While searching the vehicle they found boxes with starter packs from different cell phone networks suspected to have been stolen. When they asked for the receipts, the passenger gave Sergeant Phosa R1 000 and begged him not to arrest him.

“They were both placed under arrest for possession of suspected stolen property and bribery.”

Maswanganye said the Hekpoort Police’s acting Station Commander, Warrant Officer Gert Schultz applauded the members for their vigilance and hard work.
