Mr and Miss Unicollege crowned

Close to 30 finalists competed earlier in November to become the faces of UniCollege in 2021.

Beauty, grace, intellect and style. These words fully encapsulate the UniCollege student body and is especially true for those who took to the Mount Usambara runway on Thursday, November 4.

This night marked the college’s annual Mr and Miss UniCollege pageant which took 16 months and numerous postponements, due to Covid-19 restrictions, to host.

“The show’s theme was ‘Havana Nights’ and included solo acts as well as group dances and singing,” said Laricia Smit, communication representative for UniCollege.

“This is not a typical beauty pageant but rather a search for true ambassadors, as students have to participate in various activities on campus including charity work in the communities of Krugersdorp and Roodepoort. Half of each finalist’s points was made up of a campus score that included academics, discipline, campus activities and charity work. The other 50% was decided by the three judges for the evening – Elmarie Nolte of Oxygen Models; Wim Keet, the current Mr Krugersdorp; and Margaret Mpshe, First Princess Miss Krugersdorp 2019.”

A total of 26 finalists from across the West Rand strutted their stuff on stage that night, participating in a grand show choreographed by Tenicke Smit, silver medallist at the prestigious World Championships of Performing Arts and the young owner of Unicke Performing Arts. With her guidance, contestants were trained in dancing, modelling and the interview sections of the pageant.
