Plenty to look forward to with Khosa rugby in 2022

Khosa Rugby has announced their 2022 executive committee and coaching team as they ready themselves for the upcoming season.

The Khosa Club is making new and grander strides in their various sporting codes every year. Despite Covid-19 setting everything back a bit, the club had quite a successful 2021.

Although the season has ended Khosa Rugby is already looking to the future, having announced their coaches and executive committee for 2022 during their year-end function on Tuesday, December 7.

Nico Swartz, club chairperson said, “The new kids on the block are ready for whatever the 2022 GLRU rugby season brings, especially after a very successful 2021 during which all our teams won their respective leagues. With the experienced, seasoned, young, old and new all mixed together, the club promises magic to be created on the field on senior and youth levels.”

The club is also very excited to announce the addition of a well-known name in South African rugby to their 2022 line-up as former Golden Lions, Griquas, Leopards and Blue Bulls player Willie Wepener brings his impressive skill set to the Khosa’s first team, the Hawks XV.

“Khosa strives to bring back the old club traditions which seem to have gone missing over the recent years in club rugby – traditions such as character, professionalism, respect and joy in the game we all love. At Khosa, your club rugby should be the best years of your rugby career.”

Nico also announced the new exco team, which includes Willem Swanepoel, Steve Prinsloo, Willie Wepener, Jacques de Villiers, Nick van der Schyff, Riaan Estherhuizen, Nico Swartz, Johan Smith, Wendy Swanepoel, Derick Heyns, Francois Botha and Mike Allin.

The 2022 coaches were also announced. They are Jacques de Villiers – Hawks coach; Willie Wepener – Hawks coach; Charles van der Westhuizen – Rams coach; Johan Smith – Snakes coach; Derrick Heyns – Snakes coach; Willem Swanepoel – U/20 coach; and Francois Botha – U/20 coach.
