Police and other stakeholders recently took to the streets to educate the community of Hekpoort on how to handle issues of abuse and the procedures to follow if they themselves become victims of abuse.

Hekpoort Police spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye said in a statement that social crime prevention coordinators, communications officials from all 13 precincts in the West Rand District, the Department of Community Safety, government communications and information systems, Victim Empowerment and the Gender-based Violence Brigade went out to the community on December 8 at 09:00.
While he was welcoming the team, Warrant Officer Jannie Brits and Hekpoort Police Support Head thanked the team for showing commitment by not allowing the rainy weather to deter them from doing their jobs.

“He also reminded them to always wear a mask, sanitize and leave a safe distance when performing their duties,” said Sergeant Maswanganye.
The teams went door to door at the Palarama and Blockdyk farms in Hekpoort and distributed pamphlets about domestic violence, gender-based violence, human trafficking and substance abuse.

They also had a motorcade and conducted loud-hailing along the R563 and R560 roads.
“The team proceeded to the R24 where a few vehicles were recently reported hijacked, and warned motorists about the hijacking trends and distributed pamphlets with road safety tips.”
On behalf of the District, Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner and Captain Eddie Boboko from Khutsong’s corporate communications thanked all members for their continued determination.
