According to Magaliesburg Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, their social crime prevention unit and corporate communications officers were part of the campaign aimed at creating crime awareness and sharing crime safety tips.

The team targeted shoppers in the Magaliesburg CBD where officers engaged with the community and educated them on how they could avoid crime risks.”

They also spoke about house and business robberies, housebreaking, assault, domestic violence, gender-based violence, motor vehicle hijackings, and substance abuse.

The teams then paid a visit to the community of Newthorndale in the Khalambazo informal settlement. Sergeant Mogwere said they tried to encourage the community to look after their senior citizens and children.

“Additionally, they were encouraged to refrain from walking alone at night and in remote areas to avoid being targeted by criminals.”

They also distributed pamphlets with relevant crime safety tips and with police contact numbers. The community is encouraged to report crime as soon as it happens.
