After two years of not being able to compete, Pro-Practicum learners eagerly took to the athletics field and track again on Tuesday, January 18.
The News caught up with three of the school’s most promising athletes who are excited to be able to compete again.
The 17-year-old Elzette Geldenhuys shows off her talents best on the track and participated in the 100m, 200m, 1 500m and 800m. She is this year’s deputy head girl of the school and says she loves running. She also does cross country and has qualified for the Gauteng and the South African championships.

Her nickname on the track is Peanut.
Looking at Njabulo Shabangu it is wise not to underestimate this very tall 17-year-old. Njabulo excels in javelin, shot put, discuss, long jump, high jump, and is a sprinter in the 100m, 200m and 400m. He is this year’s deputy head boy of the school and has been partaking in athletics since his primary school days at Town School. He is a Gauteng Soccer player and a member of the school rugby team. He also participated at the Gauteng athletics championships and qualified for the SA championships.

When it comes to speed, one of the athletes to keep up with is the 17-year-old Katlego Willemse. Although she did well in all her events, she shone in the 100m, 200m and long jump. She plays netball and soccer, and has also qualified for the Gauteng and SA championships.

“After two years of Covid-19, the children are excited to be doing athletics again. We already have our first friendly and a few more events coming up,” said A Mertz the school’s principal.
