Police in the West Rand District arrested 192 suspects within just four days (from Friday, January 28 to Sunday, January 31).
Sergeant Reginald Motsamai Moshe of the West Rand Police’s Communication said the cops and other law-enforcement committed themselves to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all by addressing the root causes of crime.
“Members conducted crime-prevention operations and suspect-tracing in all 13 police stations in the District.”
They dealt with liquor-related crimes as well to minimise accidents and culpable homicide.
The suspects were arrested for serious crimes which included:
• One for rape
• 38 for drunken driving
• One for business burglary
• 13 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• One for theft
• Eight for common assault
• Six for housebreaking and theft
• One for possession of an unlicensed firearm
• 25 for possession of drugs
• Two for possession of copper
• Two for mine health and safety violations
• One for murder
• Two for dealing in liquor
• Three for robbery
Other arrests were for crimes that included possession of a dangerous weapon, common assault, intimidation, shoplifting, warrant of arrest, malicious damage to property, possession of stolen property, and being undocumented.
