Learners were encouraged to be persistent, focus on their education and never let family background, and socioeconomic and environmental conditions determine their future.
This was part of the message when communications officers from 13 police stations across the West Rand, and representatives of the Departments of Community Safety, Education, and Social Development, Gender-based Violence Brigades and the Victim Empowerment Centre visited Lesego Primary School in Muldersdrift and the Tarlton Farm School on Wednesday, February 9.
Spreading awareness around factors that can lead to criminal activities were also discussed.
West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere explained, “The aim of the visit was to support teachers in their endeavours to maintain discipline at the school and address social ills. In addition, it was to encourage learners to focus on their studies so that they could pave their way for a better future.
The teams also addressed Grades 5, 6 and 7 learners on bullying, human trafficking, peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and carrying dangerous weapons, all with their impacts strongly highlighted.
“The Social Crime Prevention unit and communication coordinator Captain Eddie Boboko thanked members and social partners on behalf of the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana for their presence and successfully creating awareness.”
